Introduce yourself and tell us about Napkn?
Hi, my name is Austin Schlessinger! I am a sophomore at Rutgers Business School, and I am the Founder of Napkn LLC: a company whose goal is to provide technology that synergizes user-defined data across various social media technologies. The epicenter of Napkn LLC is the Napkn App. The Napkn App allows you to share your social media, phone number, and email in one tap.
What made you choose this type of business and what is unique about it?
I chose to enter networking business because I love to meet new people. The app is unique because it expedites the networking process and integrates social media with your contact list.
What do you wish you knew before you started your business?
Before starting, I wish I would have realized how difficult it is to maintain a work-life balance as the founder of an early-stage startup. I am a very organized person, but it has challenged my time management skills.
How do you use social media to market your business?
I utilize social media to keep my network updated with Napkn. Throughout the week, I post Kickstarter updates, encourage people to support, and promote my live show Napkn @ Noon. Napkn @ Noon is a live Facebook or Instagram video I post every Sunday to talk about how the app can benefit different groups of people. For example, last week Napkn @ Noon covered how it will benefit millennials.
What did you learn from your biggest failure?
My business has been around for not even a month and I am always up for a challenge.
If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be?
Get started! You will always feel underprepared, but you just need to pull the trigger and get going.
What unique selling points (USPs) do you offer that your competition doesn’t?
Share your social media, phone number, and email in one tap
Integrate social media with your contact list
View social media profiles internally within the App
What sacrifices have you had to make to be a successful entrepreneur?
To be an entrepreneur I have had to sacrifice time that I would typically spend hanging out with friends.
What is your favorite book and why? How has it helped you in your business?
My favorite book is Grit by Angela Duckworth because it preaches about how to persevere. As an entrepreneur, perseverance is a virtue.
What is your future goal for the company?
My goal is for everyone to delete’s their contact app off their phone, and use Napkn instead.
What have been your most satisfying moments in business?
My most satisfying moments in business are anytime I get to network and talk about my business. I love speaking about my vision and I love learning about what people are all about.
