Challenging Tasks Combined with Perfectionism Equals Procrastination

Procrastination is the biggest obstacle to progress and moving forward in life. I know how painful it is to be scared, to be unable to make a choice, and to stick with it. When a person resists doing something, this unpleasant activity does not disappear in an unknown Universe somehow. It is still there and still adding up to all the other things you have to do. The reasons for procrastination are many and different. They are unique, but there are some common trends such as:

  • There is so much to do and so little time to do it.
  • The workload seems so challenging and I may not be able to do all the tasks so I will fail.
  • I’m tired and I do not feel like working now so I better do an activity I like more.
  • I’m scared I will not complete the task well enough or even perfect. Who says what’s the right measure for perfect?
  • I prefer to remain in my comfort zone and stop challenging myself with different new projects – they may make me feel anxious or uncomfortable.

You could have your own, unique and authentic reasons to procrastinate and not move forward with your life and business. When you are ready to stop being your biggest obstacle towards moving forward and accomplishing your goals, you can apply these 3 strategies. The mind works best with 3 things to do, not more and not less. This way the efficiency reaches the highest levels.

Apply these 3 strategies on a daily basis:

Begin With The Most Challenging & Difficult Task First

When you start the day with this kind of motion, decisiveness, and entrepreneurial spirit nothing can stop you. Just close your eyes for a moment and imagine how much lighter and more confident you feel after you have coped successfully with your biggest obstacle first. The kind of motion and tone for the day that this activity is going to set is incredible.

Always Prioritize Your Tasks

To avoid chaos and unnecessary stress. First and always create two different to-do lists.

– The first to do list

has to be about the tasks that there is no way you won’t accomplish today. These tasks are significant and they may require more time, effort, and thinking. Though exactly these tasks will move you forward with your life and business. Keeping your mind and body healthy is a necessity for you to progress and stop procrastinating. They can be a part of your daily routine and take no more than an hour or even less. With the power of sports, meditation, and mindfulness you are going to be more effective moving forward in life.

– The second to do list

has to be about things that have to be done, but are not either urgent, important, or directly related to accomplishing your goal. Here we come down to the most difficult part of the process to get rid of procrastination. Setting clear goals with measurable steps to achieve. Without knowing which of the important activities requiring your laser-sharp focus to achieve your goals are, you get distracted. There is so much clutter, information, and distracting activities around us, empowering us to procrastinate.

Technology allows us as humans to learn from everywhere just by looking at our phones, socialize all the time and try new applications without practical reasons sometimes. You know what I mean. There are so many possibilities and things to do that can and will distract you from working. You have to be 100% certain of what you want to accomplish, afterward frame it into a clear, measurable goal. Your inner drive to accomplish your goal has to be so strong meaning you will not stop until you have seen results. Things like doing chores, reading a book just for fun, or anything that does not add bonus skills, knowledge, or contacts empowering you to accomplish your goal, have to be on the second to do list.

One of the main reasons for procrastination is a lack of laser-sharp focus, lack of knowing what’s important versus what is of secondary importance. [bctt tweet=”One of the main reasons for procrastination is a lack of laser-sharp focus, lack of knowing what’s important versus what is of secondary importance.” username=”startupily”]

Learning to prioritize automatically makes you organized, being aware of the most important activities. Though, this is a process that sometimes takes too much time and effort for people who procrastinate. Support from a coach could boost your performance massively and empower you to create big, clear, and measurable goals. This is the first step towards clarity as opposed to chaos and confusion.

-Accept that there is nothing perfect in this world.

You are not perfect. Your work is not perfect, too. Creating an incredible life and business is more than ENOUGH. Striving for perfection every day, you miss the opportunity to move forward and be satisfied with the progress in your life and business. Unfortunately, since childhood, the people around us have convinced us that we have to be perfect in order to deserve love, happiness, money, or success. These are the biggest obstacles we face ongoing in life. Striving for perfection and doing nothing in the end, because we are too scared of being a failure. The fear is so strong paralyzing a person to even make a move. This is what the core of procrastination is:

  • FEAR of FAILURE, BEING IMPERFECT & DOING THINGS IMPERFECTLY

The really astonishing fact is that from the moment we let go of this desire to be perfect, to do things perfectly, we do everything so much better in terms of quality and results. Once you, as a procrastinator, let go of the FEAR, you can live in a state of FLOW. The state of FLOW is not only productive, creating effective results, but better for your body and mind. It is characterized by a calm, laser-focused, and attentive state where you get things done without unnecessary stress. Of course, this state of flow makes you feel empowered, strong, and capable. Why procrastinate then?

PROCRASTINATION has stolen enough opportunities, time, and goals from you, seek the advice and strategies you need to get rid of it once and for all. There are powerful tools to boost not only your momentary performance, but also your long-term attitude, daily rituals, and state which are the only significant factors for progress and success.
